Profile

A wily slow left-arm spinner, who often doubled up as a handy batsman lower down the order, Bobby Peel served Yorkshire with distinction from 1883 to 1897. Taking 100-plus wickets in a season was meat and drink for Peel. Eventually, he finished with 1775 first-class wickets in his kitty.

Peel was given his Test debut against Australia in December 1884. He went on to play 20 Tests, taking 101 wickets in addition to scoring 1715 runs. His best bowling figures of 7/31 came against Australia at Old Trafford in 1888 in a massive winning cause. He also made some good contributions with the bat as evidenced by his 3 Test half-centuries. After retirement, he turned to coaching before working in a Woolen Mill in Morley.
